The
idea of a distributorship that would SPECIALIZE in safety equipment for
Lineman, Arborists, CATV, Electricians, and Ironworker came to Joe L.
Matthews during World War II while he was stationed in the South
Pacific.
Joe was born and raised in Grove City, Pennsylvania. in 1932 he
joined and spent 4 years in the United States Navy. upon returning to
Grove City he went to work for Bashlin Industries and married Alberta
Thompson his childhood sweetheart. During World War II he reenlisted in
the United States Navy Construction Battalion better known Seabees where
he used his building skills.
After arriving back home Joe and Alberta (Pinky) decided to pack up
their 2 children and head south to Texas. They settled in Fort Worth,
where they had long time friends. in 1946, Joe decided it was time to
put his plan into place and the J.L. Matthews Lineman's Equipment Co.
was born. Joe started in a single car garage behind his house
manufacturing Lineman's Belts, Holsters, Pole Straps, and Accessories.
Success was slow but Joe was determined to make his company grow and
prosper.
In 1962, Joe's son, Gary Matthews, joined the small but growing
company and continued the family business for the 2nd Generation. Under
Gary's leadership the company continued to grow and develop into one of
the major leaders in the industry.
In the 80's grandsons, Danny Matthews and David Willis, came aboard
and are continuing the family business for the 3rd Generation.
Since our humble beginnings in 1946 to present, our philosophy in
business has remained the same, everyone has the right to make an honest
living and support their family and your customer has the right to
expect the best you have at the best possible price.
The J.L. Matthews Co. family thanks you for you're past support and
we look forward to serving your needs in the future. |
